FAQ – BMW Android Screens
1. Can I install the BMW Android screen myself?
Yes, our BMW Android screens are designed as plug-and-play units. No coding or programming of the car is required. We provide a detailed installation guide to make the process straightforward.
2. How long does installation take?
On average, installation takes about 1 hour. If you’re also adding extras such as a backup camera, it may take longer.
3. Do I need to disconnect the car battery before installation?
No, disconnecting the battery is not necessary. Simply make sure the car is powered off and the key is removed. Disconnecting the battery may sometimes cause error codes.
4. Will my original radio functions still work?
Yes. The Android screen replaces only the OEM display, while your original head unit remains in place. All factory functions and features are preserved.
5. Why do I need to move the optical fiber cable to the Android harness?
In vehicles with an external amplifier, sound is transmitted through an optical fiber cable. When installing the Android screen, the fiber must be relocated from the OEM head unit to the Android harness. Without this step, both OEM and Android modes will have no audio output.
6. Why should the AUX cable be connected?
The AUX cable allows the Android screen’s audio to play through the BMW speaker system.
– For BMW CCC, CIC, and most NBT systems, connecting the AUX cable is required.
– For some BMW NBT models, it may not be necessary.
– For EVO systems, audio runs through USB instead, so installation differs.
7. Do I need to connect cables for the iDrive knob?
If your car already has an OEM iDrive knob, you do not need to reconnect it — simply leave all connections as they are.
Some Android screens (e.g., for BMW X1 E84 or Z4 E89) include an iDrive connector to support versions of these cars that were originally supplied without a screen and instead used a storage box. In such cases, the aftermarket iDrive knob can be connected if required.
